Egg retrieval

Egg retrieval is the procedure in which eggs are collected from the ovaries. It is performed under mild intravenous sedation, so that the woman does not feel pain and remains comfortable throughout the procedure.

With the help of ultrasound guidance, a thin needle is inserted transvaginally and collects the eggs from the mature follicles.
The procedure is short, usually lasting 10–20 minutes, depending on the number of follicles.

On the same day, the husband or partner provides a sperm sample, which will be used to fertilize the eggs in the laboratory.

After egg retrieval, the woman remains in the clinic for a short time for monitoring and can then return home, usually at the same time, without requiring hospitalization.
