Family Planning and Contraception

Family Planning and Contraception

Family planning gives the woman and the couple the opportunity to choose when and if they wish to have a child, through safe and reliable methods of contraception.
It also includes information about sexual health, the correct use of contraceptive methods and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.

The choice of the appropriate method is completely personalized and takes into account:

  • the woman's age and needs

  • health history

  • the stability and type of relationship

  • the frequency of sexual intercourse

  • the cost and how to use each method

The goal is to find the solution that suits the personal priorities and lifestyle of each woman or couple.

Contraception Methods

There are different options, with minor or major differences in action and effectiveness:

  • Intermittent contact
    Low reliability method.

  • Condom
Protects against both pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

  • Intrauterine device (IUD)
Long-term protection (3–5 years), without daily reminder.

  • Hormonal methods
Birth control pills, vaginal ring, patch.
Regulate the cycle and offer high effectiveness.

  • Emergency contraception (morning-after pill)
Used only as an emergency solution, not regularly.

  • Salvation of the fallopian tubes
Permanent method, chosen when there is no desire for future pregnancy.
