Assessing ovarian function and the number of available eggs is one of the first and most important steps in investigating infertility. Early identification of reduced ovarian reserve allows for proper treatment planning and the selection of the appropriate strategy, tailored to the needs of each woman or couple.<\/p>

What tests does the assessment include?<\/strong><\/h3>

Ovarian reserve assessment may include:<\/p>

  • Laboratory hormonal test (2nd\u20133rd day of cycle)<\/strong>
    Measurement of the hormones FSH<\/strong>, LH<\/strong> and estradiol<\/strong>, which give us information about the function of the pituitary gland and ovaries.<\/p><\/li>

  • Anti-M\u00fcllerian Hormone (AMH) Measurement<\/strong>
    AMH can be tested on any day of the cycle and is a reliable indicator of the number of follicles that can mature in the future.<\/p><\/li>

  • Ultrasound assessment of ovaries (AFC)<\/strong>
    Transvaginal ultrasound measures the number of small follicles<\/strong> (2\u201310 mm) as well as the total volume of the ovaries, giving a clear picture of fertile potential.<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

    When is further testing required?<\/strong><\/h3>

    If there are signs of premature ovarian failure<\/strong>, the following may also be recommended:<\/p>

    • specialized hormonal tests<\/p><\/li>

    • genetic testing<\/p><\/li>

    • additional investigation of other possible infertility factors<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

      Complementary hormonal control<\/strong><\/h3>

      In the initial investigation stage, hormones that affect fertility are also evaluated, such as:<\/p>

      • thyroid hormones<\/p><\/li>

      • prolactin<\/strong><\/p><\/li><\/ul>
