It is often used in couples with <strong data-start=\"320\" data-end=\"347\">unexplained infertility<\/strong> or in cases where the probability of egg and sperm meeting needs to be increased.<\/p><p data-start=\"445\" data-end=\"464\">There are two types:<\/p><ul data-start=\"466\" data-end=\"602\"><li data-start=\"466\" data-end=\"542\"><p data-start=\"468\" data-end=\"542\" class=\"translation-block\"><strong data-start=\"468\" data-end=\"493\">Symbolism<\/strong>: the husband's\/partner's sperm is used.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"543\" data-end=\"602\"><p data-start=\"545\" data-end=\"602\" class=\"translation-block\"><strong data-start=\"545\" data-end=\"572\">Heterologous insemination<\/strong>: donor sperm is used.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><h3 data-start=\"609\" data-end=\"638\"><strong data-start=\"613\" data-end=\"638\">Homologous Insemination<\/strong><\/h3><p data-start=\"640\" data-end=\"685\">For the success of the method it is important:<\/p><ul data-start=\"687\" data-end=\"836\"><li data-start=\"687\" data-end=\"737\"><p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"737\" class=\"translation-block\">The woman's fallopian tubes should be <strong data-start=\"724\" data-end=\"736\">passable<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"738\" data-end=\"836\"><p data-start=\"740\" data-end=\"836\" class=\"translation-block\">The sperm sample must have <strong data-start=\"768\" data-end=\"800\">satisfactory characteristics<\/strong> (number, motility, morphology).<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"838\" data-end=\"1031\" class=\"translation-block\">The procedure can be performed <strong data-start=\"867\" data-end=\"888\">during the natural cycle<\/strong>, however, <strong data-start=\"916\" data-end=\"946\">mild pharmacological stimulation<\/strong> is often applied, aiming to develop <strong data-start=\"970\" data-end=\"988\">2\u20133 follicles<\/strong>, thus increasing the chances of conception.<\/p><p data-start=\"1033\" data-end=\"1060\">Monitoring is done with:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1062\" data-end=\"1141\"><li data-start=\"1062\" data-end=\"1093\"><p data-start=\"1064\" data-end=\"1093\"><strong data-start=\"1064\" data-end=\"1093\">transvaginal ultrasound<\/strong><\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1141\"><p data-start=\"1096\" data-end=\"1141\" class=\"translation-block\"><strong data-start=\"1096\" data-end=\"1123\">hematological measurements<\/strong> (estradiol, LH)<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1143\" data-end=\"1463\" class=\"translation-block\">When ovulation is confirmed or induced, the sperm undergoes special laboratory processing and is then gently placed into the uterus with a thin, flexible catheter. Thus, the most motile sperm have an increased chance of reaching the fallopian tubes where natural fertilization occurs.<\/p><p data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1545\" class=\"translation-block\">The method presents <strong data-start=\"1487\" data-end=\"1544\">the best success rates in women up to 38 years of age<\/strong>.<\/p><h3 data-start=\"1552\" data-end=\"1593\"><strong data-start=\"1556\" data-end=\"1593\">Heterologous Insemination (with donor)<\/strong><\/h3><p data-start=\"1595\" data-end=\"1773\" class=\"translation-block\">In cases where the partner's sperm sample is not available or is not usable, <strong data-start=\"1721\" data-end=\"1736\">donor sperm<\/strong> from a certified sperm bank can be used.<\/p><p data-start=\"1775\" data-end=\"1866\" class=\"translation-block\">The procedure for the woman remains <strong data-start=\"1813\" data-end=\"1829\">exactly the same<\/strong> as that of homologous insemination.<\/p><p data-start=\"1868\" data-end=\"1892\">On the day of ovulation:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1894\" data-end=\"2043\"><li data-start=\"1894\" data-end=\"1948\"><p data-start=\"1896\" data-end=\"1948\" class=\"translation-block\"><strong data-start=\"1896\" data-end=\"1911\">1\u20132 ampoules of frozen sperm are thawed.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1949\" data-end=\"1991\"><p data-start=\"1951\" data-end=\"1991\">The sample is prepared in the laboratory.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1992\" data-end=\"2043\"><p data-start=\"1994\" data-end=\"2043\">It is placed in the uterus in the same painless way.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><h3 data-start=\"2050\" data-end=\"2079\"><strong data-start=\"2054\" data-end=\"2079\">Advantages of IUI<\/strong><\/h3><ul data-start=\"2081\" data-end=\"2292\"><li data-start=\"2081\" data-end=\"2125\"><p data-start=\"2083\" data-end=\"2125\" class=\"translation-block\">It is a <strong data-start=\"2089\" data-end=\"2097\">simple<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2102\" data-end=\"2113\">painless<\/strong> procedure.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2126\" data-end=\"2151\"><p data-start=\"2128\" data-end=\"2151\">It does not require anesthesia.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2152\" data-end=\"2210\"><p data-start=\"2154\" data-end=\"2210\" class=\"translation-block\">It can be done <strong data-start=\"2170\" data-end=\"2209\">in a natural or slightly stimulated cycle<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2211\" data-end=\"2292\"><p data-start=\"2213\" data-end=\"2292\" class=\"translation-block\">It is often the first therapeutic step before in vitro fertilization.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><ul><li>See also:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dranthi.gr\/en\/%ce%b4%cf%89%cf%81%ce%b5%ce%b1-%cf%83%cf%80%ce%b5%cf%81%ce%bc%ce%b1%cf%84%ce%bf%cf%82-%ce%bd%ce%bf%ce%bc%ce%b9%ce%ba%ce%bf-%cf%80%ce%bb%ce%b1%ce%b9%cf%83%ce%b9%ce%bf-%cf%83%cf%84%ce%b7%ce%bd-%ce%b5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sperm Donation &amp;
