The genetic material (egg and sperm) comes from the couple or from a donation, while the surrogate mother offers exclusively her uterus for the pregnancy.<br data-start=\"523\" data-end=\"526\">It is important to clarify that <strong data-start=\"563\" data-end=\"620\">the egg never comes from the surrogate mother<\/strong>, so that there is no genetic relationship with the child.<\/p><h3 data-start=\"680\" data-end=\"722\"><strong data-start=\"684\" data-end=\"722\">In which cases is it a solution?<\/strong><\/h3><p data-start=\"724\" data-end=\"1095\" class=\"translation-block\">Surrogacy enables women who <strong data-start=\"782\" data-end=\"812\">cannot become pregnant<\/strong>, mainly due to anatomical or medical problems of the uterus, to become mothers with the help of a third party.<br data-start=\"920\" data-end=\"923\">It is an act of giving and solidarity, which is applied exclusively when there are <strong data-start=\"1021\" data-end=\"1053\">documented medical reasons<\/strong> and is <strong data-start=\"1064\" data-end=\"1094\">completely legal in Greece<\/strong>.<\/p><h3 data-start=\"1102\" data-end=\"1143\"><strong data-start=\"1106\" data-end=\"1143\">How the process is carried out<\/strong><\/h3><ol data-start=\"1145\" data-end=\"1446\"><li data-start=\"1145\" data-end=\"1313\"><p data-start=\"1148\" data-end=\"1203\">\u03a0\u03c1\u03b1\u03b3\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03b5\u03af\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9 <strong data-start=\"1165\" data-end=\"1199\">\u03b5\u03be\u03c9\u03c3\u03c9\u03bc\u03b1\u03c4\u03b9\u03ba\u03ae \u03b3\u03bf\u03bd\u03b9\u03bc\u03bf\u03c0\u03bf\u03af\u03b7\u03c3\u03b7 (IVF)<\/strong> \u03bc\u03b5:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1207\" data-end=\"1313\"><li data-start=\"1207\" data-end=\"1248\"><p data-start=\"1209\" data-end=\"1248\">\u03c4\u03b1 \u03c9\u03ac\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1 \u03ba\u03b1\u03b9 \u03c4\u03bf \u03c4\u03bf\u03ba\u03b5\u03c4\u03cc.<\/p><\/li><\/ol><h3 data-start=\"1453\" data-end=\"1502\"><strong data-start=\"1457\" data-end=\"1502\">\u039d\u03bf\u03bc\u03b9\u03ba\u03cc \u03c0\u03bb\u03b1\u03af\u03c3\u03b9\u03bf &amp; \u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03c3\u03c4\u03b1\u03c3\u03af\u03b1 \u03cc\u03bb\u03c9\u03bd \u03c4\u03c9\u03bd \u03bc\u03b5\u03c1\u03ce\u03bd<\/strong><\/h3><p data-start=\"1504\" data-end=\"1622\" class=\"translation-block\">In order for embryo transfer to take place, <strong data-start=\"1556\" data-end=\"1605\">special judicial permission is required before the procedure<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"1606\" data-end=\"1609\">This permission:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1623\" data-end=\"1745\"><li data-start=\"1623\" data-end=\"1674\"><p data-start=\"1625\" data-end=\"1674\">protects the rights of biological parents<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1675\" data-end=\"1745\"><p data-start=\"1677\" data-end=\"1745\">ensures the full consent and protection of the surrogate mother<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1747\" data-end=\"1782\">The surrogate mother can be:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1783\" data-end=\"1856\"><li data-start=\"1783\" data-end=\"1803\"><p data-start=\"1785\" data-end=\"1803\">relative,<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1804\" data-end=\"1811\"><p data-start=\"1806\" data-end=\"1811\">friend,<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1812\" data-end=\"1856\"><p data-start=\"1814\" data-end=\"1856\">or even a woman who doesn't know the couple.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1858\" data-end=\"1980\" class=\"translation-block\">She receives <strong data-start=\"1867\" data-end=\"1888\">legal compensation<\/strong> for her physical and psychological burden, as provided for by Greek law.<\/p><p>See also:<a
